Creating value through eliminating waste
Who doesn't love a coffee in the morning or a nice cold beer on a hot afternoon, but did you know the waste from our favorite drinks contributes to millions of greenhouse gas emissions each year?
Our goal is to upcycle this waste, creating a valuable consumer product.
Upcycling is taking something that’s considered waste and re-purposing it. Materials are reused in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value.
That’s why it’s called upcycling, because the value of the item is increased!
Canadian owned and operated, GroundUp Eco-Ventures is a unique start-up company based on the concept of circular economies. Using clean technology we are focused on creating value from upcycling the waste streams of both the coffee and craft brewery industries.
Canadians use over 200 thousand tonnes of coffee and 250 thousand tonnes of barley per year. Much of this waste stream ends up in landfills or oversubscribed compost facilities. By upcycling, we eliminate over 200,000 kgs of waste and 5 million kg of greenhouse gas emissions per year. Circle economies contribute to environmental sustainability.
